Before use, check the combine harvester for sufficient fuel, oil, hydraulic oil, and coolant. Inspect the tracks or tires for wear and ensure chains and gears are properly tensioned. Verify that the cutting table, feeding drum, threshing drum, and cleaning fan are free of blockages. Check the battery level and ensure the dashboard displays function normally, and confirm the grain tank and straw handling devices are securely installed.
Start the engine following the recommended sequence and allow it to preheat to the optimal operating temperature. Adjust the gearbox settings and drive slowly into the field, keeping the cutting platform parallel to the ground. Conduct a test cut on a small area to confirm cutting height, threshing effect, and driving speed before full-scale operation.
Adjust the cutting height based on crop height, typically maintaining a low profile to minimize stubble. Keep the machine moving at a uniform speed to avoid grain damage or incomplete cutting. Choose between straw crushing and returning to the field or whole plant discharge, ensuring the straw handling system remains unobstructed.
